AYB programs are open to boys and girls in grades 1-8. Tryouts are conducted for any registered player interested in playing on a travel team. Your child does not need to attend tryouts if they are only signing up for the in-town league.
Travel team tryouts for both BOYS and GIRLS will be held Sunday, 10/2/2022. If there is a need, there may be a make-up held (date TBD) for those unable to make the 10/2/2022 date.
IN-TOWN LEAGUE
● GRADES 1-2 (BOYS and GIRLS) – Boys and girls will meet separately for 60 minutes on Saturdays beginning in December and ending around February vacation. The first part of each session will be a clinic style practice focused on skills development with the second part including opportunities for games.
o $110 fee
● GRADES 3-8 (BOYS)/GRADES 3-6 (GIRLS) – Separate boys and girls teams will compete with like teams from Ashland. Teams will include multiple grades (grouped 3/4, 5/6, 7/8). In-Town League coaches participate in the drafting of players.
o Games are held on Saturdays beginning in December and ending around February vacation.
o 1 weeknight practice a week (60-90 minutes).
o $175 fee
TRAVEL TEAMS
● GRADES 4-8 (BOYS)/GRADES 5-8 (GIRLS) – Separate boys and girls travel teams by grade level compete in the Metrowest Youth Basketball League. This league is a competitive basketball league with teams grouped by skill level into divisions. Sportsmanship, teamwork and fair play are stressed with an emphasis on winning games. Playing time is at the coach’s discretion. Tryouts are held to determine rosters (see below schedule).
o Games are held on Sundays beginning in December and ending in March and may require travel (usually one hour max drive).
o Pre-season tournament in November.
o 1-2 weeknight practices a week (90-180 minutes).
o You must show up at tryouts in order to play on a travel team. If your child attends tryouts please be prepared to accept a spot and make the commitment.
o When selecting teams evaluators consider basketball skills, team needs, coachability, positional needs and intangibles (hustle, teamwork, etc.).
o AYB recommends that all travel players participate in the in-town program. While not required for grades 5-8 (required for 4th grade boys travel), it is a great way to further develop fundamental skills while having fun with friends.
▪ If your child plays travel and in-town there is no additional fee.
o If your child doesn’t make a travel team they will be automatically transferred to the in-town program. You do not need to sign up for both programs.
o Players on the travel and in-town team could expect a weekly schedule to include:
▪ In-Town game on Saturday.
▪ Travel game on Sunday.
▪ Grade 4 boys – one in-town practice, one travel practice.
▪ Grades 5-8 boys/girls: one in-town practice (optional), two travel practices.
o $325 – $405 fees [$175 Ashland league fee due at sign up, $150 Metrowest travel fee, plus ~$80 uniform fee (if needed)].
