AYB programs are open to boys and girls in grades 1-8 that either live in Ashland or attend Ashland Public Schools. Tryouts are conducted for any registered player interested in playing on a travel team.  Your child does not need to attend tryouts if they are only signing up for the in-town league. 

Travel team tryouts for both Boys and Girls will be held Sunday, 9/28/2025.         

IN-TOWN LEAGUES

BOYS:

● GRADE 1 – This program will be available for any boy in the first grade. Each session will include a clinic style practice focused on basketball fundamentals and skill development as well as grow into modified games as the season progresses. The sessions will take place on Saturdays beginning in December and ending before February vacation.  [Register for:  BOYS&GIRLS Gr. 1-2 In Town Basketball – 2025/2026] ($125 fee)

● GRADE 2 – This program will be available for any boy in the second grade. Each session will include a combination of clinic style practice focused on basketball fundamentals and skill development, modified games (3v3, 2v.1, etc.), and 5v5 games. These sessions will take place on Saturdays beginning in December and ending before February vacation. [Register for:  BOYS&GIRLS Gr. 1-2 In Town Basketball – 2025/2026] ($125 fee)

● GRADES 3-4 – Teams will consist of players from third and fourth grade and be coached by parent volunteers. Games are held on Saturdays in Ashland beginning in December and playoffs will end before February vacation. There will be 1 weeknight 60-minute practice a week.   [Register for:  BOYS Grades 3-8 In Town Basketball – 2025/2026] ($175 fee)

● GRADES 5-6 – Teams will consist of players from fifth and sixth grade and be coached by high school volunteers. This league consists of GAMES ONLY. AYB may provide an optional weeknight skill session contingent upon commitment from parent volunteers that will run these weekly sessions. Games are held on Saturdays in Ashland beginning in December and playoffs will end before February vacation.  [Register for:  BOYS Grades 3-8 In Town Basketball – 2025/2026] ($175 fee)

● GRADES 7-8 – Teams will consist of players from seventh and eighth grade and be coached by high school volunteers. This league consists of GAMES ONLY. TRAVEL TEAMS

●  GRADES 4-8 (BOYS and GIRLS) – Separate boys and girls travel teams by grade level compete in the Metrowest Youth Basketball League. This league is a competitive basketball league with teams grouped by skill level into divisions. Sportsmanship, teamwork and fair play are stressed with an emphasis on creating a positive and competitive environment.  Playing time is not required to be equal and at the coach’s discretion. AYB will form more than one travel team per grade contingent on interest/talent. Tryouts are held to determine rosters (see below schedule). Games are held on Sundays beginning in December and ending in March and may require travel (usually one-hour max drive).
Pre-season tournament in November (Hopkinton Tap-Off Tournament).
1-2 weeknight practices a week (~90 minutes/practice).
You must show up at tryouts in order to play on a travel team.  If your child attends tryouts please be prepared to accept a spot and make the commitment.
When selecting teams, evaluators consider basketball skills, team needs, coachability, positional needs and intangibles (hustle, teamwork, etc.).
AYB recommends that all travel players participate in the in-town program. It is a great way to further develop fundamental skills while having fun with friends.

If your child plays travel, there is no additional fee to play in-town. Please note this is OPTIONAL to play both travel and in-town.

You will be prompted in your travel registration if you want to also play in-town; if so, please make this selection while registering for travel. DO NOT register separately for In-Town.

Players on the travel and in-town team could expect a weekly schedule to include:

In-Town game on Saturday
Travel game on Sunday
Grade 4 boys/girls: one in-town practice, one travel practice
Grades 5-8 boys/girls: two travel practices
Travel fee $375    
Players that do not make a travel team will be refunded applicable fees.
Uniform Fee is approximately $90 (jersey & shorts). Not needed if last year’s still fits. Coaches will provide further details on how and when to order once teams are formed.
